City Begins Water Main Flushing

City Public Works and Fire Department staff are beginning to flush the City’s 90+ miles of water mains by using the nearly 1,300 fire hydrants throughout the City. This operation will start nearest to the City’s three water towers and progress outward from there. It is possible that you will notice some temporary discoloration in the water coming from your tap as the flushing activity passes through your area of town and stirs up sediments of minerals and iron in the water main lines. The water remains safe to drink, but if you can usually clear your internal plumbing of these sediments by running the water for a couple minutes and checking your faucet diffuser (screens) for material. Check water softener filters, faucet meshes and washing machine filters for sediment that may impede full water flow.
