Kwik Trip and City Council Make Deal on Water Lines

The Hastings City Council has agreed to waive the current requirement for Kwik Trip to completely remove and disconnect the water service line underneath their development on Vermillion Street. As part of the construction of a new Kwik Trip store at 1630 Vermillion Street, existing buildings were demolished leaving unused water service lines. The city council, per a recommendation by the Public Works Department, is allowing Kwik trip to leave the lines in place because removing them would result in damage and loss of integrity to the surface and base at 17th and Vermillion and may also result in unwanted traffic interruptions and damage to the foundation of a commercial sign servicing the property at 1800 Vermillion Street. Kwik Trip agrees to be responsible for the removal of the water service line if it is deemed necessary in the future by the city.
