Chemical Leak at CG 3M Contained Quickly

The 3M plant in Cottage Grove notified emergency crews of a nitric acid leak Tuesday at the company’s manufacturing building. Employees discovered the leak just before 7:00am and crews from Cottage Grove and Woodbury responded to the scene. On-site emergency teams had contained the leak prior to the arrival of the community resources. Two employees were exposed to the chemical with one requiring transport to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. The other employee is being monitored for any adverse effects. While the liquid was contained, nitric acid vapor was also collected in water, preventing additional exposure. A statement from 3M believes no health risk was experienced by the community.
