Capt. Murray Talks Distracted Driving

With the ceremony recognizing the new Hastings Fire Department Captains at last night’s City Council meeting, we are reminded of some very impactful words from Captain Tom Murray when we covered the department training sessions for emergency scenarios in July. Captain Murray, with 30 years of experience, told us that driving is a serious responsibility and that reacting to distractions can have disastrous results. He shared his advice for all drivers.

To discourage distracted driving, the Minnesota legislature passed into law, a much larger fine for the 2nd offense of texting while driving. Beginning August 1st, the fine for the first texting ticket is $50, and rockets up to $225 for the second infraction.
