HCC Studies Flood Plain Plan

The Hastings City Council considered a first reading and ordered a public hearing for an amendment to City Code on Flood Plain Regulations for adopting a revised Flood Insurance Rate Map Panel. Flood Insurance Rate Maps for Dakota County were adopted in 2011. The Panel for Hastings includes the central portion of the city including the Vermillion River Levee. The Levee was identifies as being “Provisionally Accredited” on the 2011 maps. The city has made improvements and received full accreditation of the levee. The new FIRM panel eliminates the provisional status of the levee, which protects a number of homes southeast of 15th and Pine. Removing the provisional accreditation of the levee may limit the need for additional flood insurance by affected property owners. The public hearing, 2nd reading and ordinance adoption are scheduled for February 16th.
