Senator Will Not Run Again

Minnesota Senate Assistant Majority Leader Katie Sieben of Cottage Grove has announced that she will not seek reelection to the Senate in 2016. Sen. Sieben, who chairs the Subcommittee on Elections, has served in the legislature for 14 years, including four years in the House of Representatives prior to her election to the Senate in 2006. Senator Sieben says she is honored to have served her community and her dedication to the people of Washington and Dakota Counties and the state of Minnesota will continue as she seeks other opportunities. She says some of the most gratifying projects she worked on in the legislature are the new Hastings Bridge, Red Rock Corridor and high speed rail improvements, election reform, passage of all-day kindergarten and expansion of pre-k, banning harmful chemicals like BPA, and increasing protections for the Mississippi and Saint Croix Rivers. Senator Sieben has not announced any specific plans for the future.
