St Johns School Shares Pennies

In the state with over 11 thousand lakes and a river that runs right thru the county, students at St. John the Baptist Catholic school in Vermilion took on a project to assure children in drought-stricken Kitui, Kenya may soon have enough life sustaining water. Students in Pre-K thru the 6th grade participated in a partnership with the Living Water campaign to support building water tanks, dams and other holding areas to aid yearlong water availability in this harsh part of the world. Joyce Lorentz, a member of the St. Pius V parish in Cannon Falls, is a volunteer who has traveled to the African country, praised the students for raising just over 1500 dollars, over 2 times their original goal. Children collected coins in water bottles, with an additional donation of 300 provided to the total from the parish St. Anne’s Council of Catholic Women.
