Milberg Verdict Announced

The 3rd day of the Kari Milberg trial was to be the last as closing arguments were made without the defense calling any witnesses. The defense rested and the jury began the deliberation which was to last nearly 2 hours. Both sides were called back to Judge Joseph Boles courtroom just before 6 PM where the defendent rose to accept the decision. Kari Milberg then received 3 pronouncements of not guilty, acquitting her of all charges in the December 2013 crash that took the lives of her 11 year old daughter, Lydia and 2 of her nieces. Milberg seemed stunned at the verdict and then sat sobbing with family who had gathered in the Pierce County Courtroom. The jury consisted of nine women and three men who found the 35 year old not guilty on all three counts of homicide by negligent use of a vehicle and one count of reckless driving causing bodily harm. The prosecution had contended that distracted driving involving a series of facebook messages sent from her phone, and not wintery roads were the cause of the accident.
