As the sole topic of deliberation at Monday night’s Hastings city council meeting, the new Allina Clinic, to be located at the western edge of the city, has presented a plan for a 350 space parking lot that would encircle the 2 story 50,000 square foot building. John Hinzman, Economic Development Director, presented the site plan which calls for an upwards departure in the usual size for such a development. Councilperson Danna Elling Schultz voiced her concern about runoff when paving such a large expanse.
Schultz asked whether permeable pavers had been considered to lessen stormwater runoff.Hinzman requested that someone from Mortensen Construction address that question. Leslie Seppamaki, representative for Mortensen Construction gave the reason from the construction firm.
Hinzman also provided engineering background on the request.
Schultz stated her wish to look at having discussion on other options to large scale installation of nonpermeable surfaces. Councilperson Balsanek had a suggestion.
Following the discussion the request for approval of the site plan, as submitted, was unanimously approved.
