Thursday night’s visit from the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train may have been cold with single digit wind chill temperatures but the reception of the muliticolored string of 9 decorated railcars were warmly received by the crowd that gathered around the portable stage car, featuring brave musicians who provided entertainment in the open air. Santa also made an appearance and dignitaries from CP presented an incredible donation of $4,500 dollars to representatives from Hastings Family Service Food Shelf that will help with make the holidays even brighter for families in need. And a special update was made on Thursday from Merchants Bank who conducted the Swipe out Hunger campaign. Congratulations to Hastings Family Service, winner of the $5,000 grand prize this year. They ended with 2,091 total votes, 989 votes ahead of second place Hunger Task Force of La Crosse. And there is still time to adopt a family.
