Hastings HS Band Honors Concert

The Hastings High School Spring Band Concert and Awards Night took place on Tuesday night with more than a dozen students receiving special acknowledgement as recipients of top awards for the year. Directors Jim Jacobsen, Duane Oldham and Josh Wahlstrom praised the caliber of the musicians in the program and applauded the strides made in several competitions also held during the year. In the Concert Band the 2017 Outstanding Musician award was presented to Jackson Gergen with the Most Improved Musician award given to Drew Davis. Outstanding Musician for Varsity Band was Ben Ascheman with Most Improved Musician presented to Bobby Traeder. In the Jazz ensembles, Jazz 2’s Charlie Becker received the Outstanding Musician Award and in Jazz 1, the Woody Herman Award went to Noah Brenny. The Louis Armstrong Award was given to trumpeter Senior Mikki Becker who was also recognized alongside Brenny and Senior James McCord for their 4 years involvement in Jazz Ensemble. All State Band participants were Katherine McCord and William Alongi, with percussionist Alongi also named Exemplary Musician a recognition that honors former band director Bob Casperson. Wind Ensemble member James McCord was given the John Philip Sousa Award and and in a departure from selecting a single recipient of the Semper Fi Award Seniors Noah Brenny AND Sarah Hardy each received the award as always faithful always true to the Hastings High school band program. Members of the band continue preparation for graduation ceremonies which will complete another school year.
