Memorial Day Programs Set

This year?s Memorial Day Program will follow tradition with a start at 9AM at the Hastings Veterans Home for a Flag Ceremony. The presentation at the Roadside Park Veterans Memorial will begin at 10 AM. The day?s events are sponsored and coordinated by the Lyle Russell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1210, the Nelson-Lucking American Legion Post 47 and their Ladies Auxiliaries of Hastings. The Master of Ceremonies will be Richard Hullander with the featured Memorial Day Address to be given by Father John Echert, a retired Lt. Col. Of the United States Air Force. Also on the program will be a Memorial Day reading by Patriot Pen student Sam Krehbel and Voice of Democracy student Rebecca Schill. Following the ceremony at Roadside Park, a stop will be made at the Soldiers and Sailors Cemetery on Ninninger Road at approximately 10:45 with the final tribute ceremony to commence at 11:15 at the Veterans Memorial in Levee Park at the Pavilion where a wreath will be laid in the river followed by a brief ceremony there. In case of inclement weather a change of venue would be announced between 8:45 and 9 AM on Monday, May 29th if the program would be moved to the Hastings Armory. KDWA radio will feature a live broadcast of the program at Roadside Park beginning at 10 AM.
