The weekend brought plenty of delays and cancellations along with road closures and traffic accidents in our area. Hwys 61 near Cottage Grove was blocked on Saturday by a jacknifed 18 wheeler while elsewhere in Dakota County , a similar stretch of Hwy 52 near Coates was the scene of multiple vehicles in the ditch during the height of the late spring storm. Minnesota Highway patrols and local first responders addressed several calls for disabled motorists who had slid off the road or had misjudged clogged intersections and were immobilized in deep snow. From a report of 16 inches in Northern Dakota County to just over a foot in Hastings, some measured 3 and 4 foot drifts with many churches cancelling services Saturday and Sunday due to poor driving conditions. Snow emergencies continue until all local streets are plowed curb to curb.
