On Thursday, August 8th, the Newport Fire department responded to a report of a house in town filling with smoke. According to information published on social media, the cause of the smoke was a furnace motor that had failed, and ignited surrounding materials. The report indicates there were no casualties in the incident, and the Newport Fire Department was assisted on the scene by units from St. Paul Park, and Cottage Grove.
