WCSO Deputy Monterrey Honored

Washington County Deputy Edgar Monterrey has been presented with the County’s Life Saving Award for actions on June 16th. According to a post on social media, Deputy Monterrey responded to the Wakota Bridge to assist the MN State Patrol with a male who intended to commit suicide by jumping off of the bridge. Upon his arrival, a Trooper was physically holding the male by an arm through the railing, keeping him from jumping. The Trooper asked for Deputy Monterrey’s help and he ran to assist. Deputy Monterrey held the male through the railing, immediately beginning to talk with the male, and showed excellent communications skills and maintained a calm demeanor throughout the encounter. Deputy Monterrey was eventually able to talk the male into coming back over the railing. Monterrey received his award at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Awards Ceremony, held in September.
