A local business has made a major announcement. The Smead Manufacturing company, with corporate headquarters based in Hastings, will restructure their operations to improve efficiency. This will result in the closure of a production and distribution facility located in Locust Grove Georgia and the transfer of the majority of production and distribution related positions here in Hastings. Four other facilities will continue to operate, however Smead President Sharon Avent noted the long term decline in the industry has made this difficult decision necessary and that Smead regrets the impact that it will have on our co-workers and friends.
Smead Manufacturing began in 1906 and is a major employer in the Hastings area.
