The first annual Hastings Police Department open house was by all measures a big success. The 3-hour event included picnic lunch, fresh popped popcorn, facility tours and even the force’s armored MAG vehicle. An estimate of approximately 300 visitors joined in to connect with members of the HPD, Dakota County Sheriff’s department, police reserves and staff welcomed the opportunity to meet citizens and even field questions. We asked Chief Bryan Shafer why this event was created.
One of the biggest draws, besides the excellent food, was the armored SWAT-type vehicle. Officer David Bauer explained the gear and why the community needs such an event.
