It’s taken 103 years, but soon a brand new Ptacek’s IGA will open and we went right to the top as Mike Ptacek gave KDWA a personal tour of the new building. This move took a long time to plan and now, as the doors are closed at the end of the business day at the old store, the automatic doors are set to open bright and early Wednesday morning. We asked the Prescott business patriarch what the community will find at the new store.
This is certainly not an individual effort, this father has a team of family each taking on a major role in the business.
In addition to the many changes and improvements, there is a familiarity to the feel of the store. Several of the grocery-themed antiques that were displayed in the old store will be placed throughout the new, and even the booths from the deli were transported in a unique way. We hear just how that was accomplished.
From an expanded liquor selection, a 5-pump gas island, expansive deli, Caribou Coffee, and of course Ptacek’s nationally known meats, it’s a matter of quality and service that has served the community for over a century. One of the most popular events in that history, was a visit by the Budweiser Clydesdales which are scheduled to return to the new larger parking area, and is tenatively scheduled for June 21st. The pre-opening bustle of the store is to be expected, but a confident Ptacek wants to make sure to make the transititon easy for his customers.
Although the Wednesday opening will begin the new era, a formal Grand Opening is scheduled for the last days of May and will continue legacy of this Prescott mainstay.
