Post Commander Balsanek Re-elected

Post 47 of the Hastings American Legion has announced the reelection of Joe Balsanek as the Post Commander. Commander Balsanek served in the Minnesota Air National Guard for 22 years in civil engineering during the Vietnam and Middle East Desert Storm War, retiring from military service in 1992. His civilian career included an assistant professorship at Hamline University and a professorship at Inver Hills College, teaching Production Design and Technical Theatre over a thirty year period. He holds a bachelor of arts degree from Adrian College (Michigan) and a master of fine arts degree from Ohio University. During that time he also wrote and published two plays and a public speaking textbook, “A Speaker’s Journey” which is now in its fifth edition. Joe’s time now in retirement is spent golfing, bowling, fishing, gardening and building dollhouses. He also is serving his second term on the Hastings City Council, representing Ward Two. As the commander of Post 47, Joe is looking forward to continue offering his expertise in the management of the Hastings Legion.
