A previous dispute has now returned as Lobbyist Maryann Campo has announced the filing of a lawsuit against State Representative Denny McNamara citing defamation and slander in accusations made earlier this spring. The dispute centers on comments allegedly made regarding Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board purchases from Hoffman and McNamara, the nursery run by McNamara’s son. Campo suggests that her reputation has been compromised and that the accusations made by McNamara have damaged her professionally. Representative Alice Hausman, from St. Paul, reported that Campo had stated the practice of buying nursery stock from McNamara’s son, should be discontinued. Campo counters that she never made the remark. Another Parks board lobbyist, Representative Phyllis Kahn, had earlier filed an ethics complaint, which was dismissed in June. The suit, filed in Ramsey District Court seeks at least $50,000 and was set in motion when Campo’s request to McNamara that he refrain from continuing to repeat the claims, were ignored.
