The City of South St. Paul provided a somber welcome for the body of St. Paul Firefighter Shane Clifton, who died last week in the St. Paul Firehouse 14, of an apparent cardiac-related event. Members of the South Metro Fire Department, whose station is located one block from the funeral home, formed an honor guard last Wednesday as a lone bagpiper and the draped Medic rig processed slowly past the line of fire trucks with lights flashing and salutes presented by those standing at attention as it made its way up the hill to the funeral home. Clifton’s body was then transported to the Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church in St. Paul where visitation was held with the funeral scheduled for Wednesday at 10:00am. The procession from the South St. Paul funeral home was honored by a contingent of South Metro fire personnel once again saluting the procession as it passed the station on it’s way to St. Paul. Firefighters from communities all over Minnesota are expected to honor the 38 year old who served 9 years in the Navy and had been with the St. Paul Department as a firefighter and paramedic for 8 years.
