Peterson Seeks House Seat

Cottage Grove City Council member Jen Peterson has announced she will seek the DFL endorsement for the District 54A House seat that will be vacated as Dan Schoen of St. Paul Park looks to run for the Senate seat currently held by Senator Katie Sieben. Sieben announced last week, she would not seek another term. Peterson is a health assistant at Lincoln Center Elementary in South St. Paul and has served on the Cottage Grove City Council for two terms. Peterson ran for state representative in 2010, but lost to Republican John Kriesel in that contest.
In addition to her time on the council, Peterson is also vice chair of the Red Rock Corridor Commission , board vice president of Stone Soup Thrift Shop in St. Paul Park , a founder and coordinator of the Fare For All food program as well as a member of Beyond the Yellow Ribbon.
In a related story, Peterson had been slated to take over as Stone Soup board president following the retirement of Majel Carroll. Longtime supporter of the thrift store which provides free clothing and household items to needy families, Vickie Snyder, will take over Feb. 23 as board president of Basic Needs, Inc. of South Washington County, which operates Stone Soup. Snyder offered her help to the organization last week after founder Majel Carroll announced her retirement.
