Shoen To Run for Sieben Vacancy

Representative Dan Schoen (DFL of St. Paul Park) announced Wednesday that he will run for the State Senate. This announcement comes one day after Senator Katie Sieben (DFLof Cottage Grove) announced she would not seek reelection to Senate District 54 in 2016. Representative Schoen has been elected twice to represent House District 54A (South St. Paul, Newport, St. Paul Park, Cottage Grove, Grey Cloud Island Township). Schoen is a police officer with the Cottage Grove Police Department, serving there for 15 years including work as a Detective in the Narcotics and Violent Crimes Task Force, Paramedic and Hostage and Crisis Negotiator. Although Schoen could not be reached for comment before this newscast deadline, his team released this statement. “It has been an honor to work with Senator Sieben at the capitol the past three years. She has been a mentor and friend since I was elected to the House. She has a passion for helping people and has made a positive impact on thousand of people’s lives. It has also been an honor to represent our neighbors in the House of Representatives. I am truly humbled by the trust placed in me by the voters to be able to advocate for our friends, neighbors, and communities. I hope to continue to represent our district and would be honored to represent Hastings, Afton, Denmark Township, Nininger Township and the rest of Cottage Grove as well as the people I serve now in Grey Cloud Island Township, Newport, St. Paul Park and South St. Paul.
