The Hastings community learned of the passing of two well known Hastings residents, Leonard (Lenny) and Mary Schwartz who were current residents of Arizona. The couple moved from the Hastings area several years ago, but many residents and students remember Lenny as the assistant principal of Hastings Middle school in the 1970s, the same time Jerry Dempsey was a part of the faculty. His wife Mary worked at Regina Hospital as a registered nurse and sons Tom, Steve and Mark finished their schooling in Arizona, continuing to stay in the area.Although the couple left the Hastings area many years ago, friends and former co-workers expressed their sympathies as the information was received back home.
During the Friday morning Tim Collins Show, current Principal of Hastings Middle School , Mark Zuzek, described his admiration of the former educator
Zuzek included the couple and counselor Kirk Johnson, who also passed away recently, in a tribute that explained how much these members of the Hastings education family
gave to their community.
Services for Kirk Johnson took place on March 24th and services for Lenny and Mary will be held on April 16th in Tucson Arizona. (Photo provided by the Schwartz Family)
