According to a report from the City of Hastings, consideration is now ongoing by the Public Safety Committee of the Council in the development of a Predatory Offender Ordinance associated with Level III Sexual Offenders. The committee reviewed a draft ordinance, looked over maps of the impacts various ordinance options may have, and received public testimony. The committee recommended to ask the full Council to consider an ordinance which would establish residence prohibitions for level III sexual offenders within 50 of a school, licensed child care center, or public park. Staff will update the draft ordinance and prepare updated maps to bring the issue to the full Council in May.
