For a century and a half, Lakeside Cemetery has provided a resting place for those who have passed and a comforting tradition to those who return to gaze at weathered monuments and tend pots of geraniums or evergreen wreaths. The atmosphere was one of celebration on Saturday, when many gathered to acknowledge the history of this sacred place. Chaplain for Augustanna Health Care, Gordon Gathright, explained why it was important for him to be there.
He also wondered how this day might have been seen by those who made it possible.
Photos and more of the stories from that day will be featured in upcoming newscasts.
