An estimated 200 people were in attendance at the National Day of Prayer Breakfast gathering at the Dakota Pines Golf Club in Hastings The ecumenical gathering focused on offering prayers for families, churches, educators, businesses, the media, military personnel, and government officials. Speakers at Thursdays event included Mayor Paul Hicks, Hastings High School Principal Mike Johnson and Hastings Family Services Executive Director Chris Koop. The National Day of Prayer has been observed on the first Thursday in May since 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. This years theme of For Your Great Names Sake, Hear Us, Forgive Us, Heal Us is founded on the 19th verse of Chapter 9 of the Book of Daniel, which reads, in part, O Lord, Listen! O Lord, Forgive! O Lord, Hear and Act! For Your Sake, O My God.
