City Announces Public Safety Hires

The City of Hastings administration announces that two new fulltime Firefighter/Paramedics have accepted job offers and will begin employment on Monday, November 20th. Adam Harklerode is currently a part time paramedic for Allina EMS, a member of the Dakota County Special Operations Team, a fulltime firefighter at the Mdewakanton Public Safety Fire & EMS Division, an occasional flight medic, and a paid-on-call Firefighter in Lakeville. Renier Steenkamp is a paid-on-call employee for the City of Hastings since January of 2015 and recently completed paramedic school.
The city also acknowledged that 91 applicants responded to open positions on the Hastings Police force. Initial interviews and multiple testing has narrowed the focus to six candidates who have been invited to participate in interview panels on Monday, November 13th. Also in the police department, recent promotions and expiration of temporary assignments will mean that a number of specialty positions will be in transition. Those voluntary positions include Investigations, Drug Task Force, and School Resource Officer. Administration made the decisions to place Ryan Kline in the role of School Resource Officer, Nate Wood will be assigned to the Dakota County Drug Task Force, and Paul Young will fill the second Investigator position. All are 3-year assignments.
