A tour of the Veterans Home in Hastings on April 27th, brought legislators, administrators, facilities representatives and members of the media to see for themselves the ravages of time evident in the buildings that comprise the dormitory style campus which is home to Veterans of military service. The need is great for all 5 Minnesota Veterans Homes but a proposal of state funding for the Hastings facilities brought the invited group to view the situation up close. Projects range from HVAC to plumbing and many involve structural components . According to the proposal listing projects in dire need of correction, nearly $2.8 million dollars have been requested that would replace roofs on several buildings, replace domestic water lines, update HVAC systems and secure crumbling foundations impacted by erosion and water damage. The tour included State Representative Tony Jurgens and Senator Karla Bigham who heard compelling reasons to recommend funding to preserve these state assets. Jurgens commented after the tour.
Senator Bigham supported the effort
Both legislators will be featured on In Depth programs on Wednesday.
