On Sunday October 20th at approximately 4:56 PM, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a multiple vehicle crash with injuries on Highway 35 near 1005th Street, Hager City, WI in Diamond Bluff Township. According to a PCSO press release, 47-year-old Lonsdale, MN, resident Kathy Kahler was driving a motorcycle northbound on Highway 35 when she passed another motorcycle in a no passing zone at a high rate of speed. Kahler lost control of her motorcycle and struck a guardrail and was ejected. Kahler was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. 23-year-old Ian Gardiner, from Crompton, MN, was driving his motorcycle southbound on Highway 35 when he attempted to avoid colliding with Kahler’s motorcycle. Gardiner’s motorcycle was laid down, and he was also ejected from his motorcycle. Regina Turning, 20 years old from Oakdale, MN, was driving a Pontiac Vibe southbound on Highway 35, when she collided with Kahler’s motorcycle after it struck the guardrail. Kahler was pronounced dead at the scene, Gardiner was transported from the scene by Red Wing Ambulance Service to Mayo Hospital in Red Wing, with undetermined injuries, and Turning was uninjured in the crash. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Red Wing Ambulance and Fire Department, Ellsworth Fire Department and Wisconsin State Patrol. The crash remains under investigation.
