Korean War Vet Coming Home

A Korean War soldier from Red Wing who died while a Prisoner of War in North Korea has been identified, and will be buried in his hometown on November 9th. According to a report by Fox News, 22-year-old Army Corporal Gudmund C. Johnson was captured in November of 1950, and died at Pyoktong POW Camp in North Korea in July of 1951. Johnson’s remains were returned to the US in 1954, and interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, but he was not identified until April of 2018. The Fox report indicates that a rosette will be placed next to his name at the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, and more than 7,000 Americans still remain unidentified from the Korean War.
