The Hastings Police Department recently posted updates on K9 Officer Sonny and his handler, Officer Dan, who are currently in K9 training. According to a post on social media, Sonny worked on searching for articles. By using his nose, Sonny is able to locate ammunition, firearms, ID cards, credit cards, and match boxes. When he finds these items he lays down next to them. This task is very helpful for collecting and preserving evidence. Sonny has also been introduced to “recalls”. A recall is when a handler sends his/her K9 to apprehend a suspect. However, before the K9 bites the suspect, the handler calls the K9 back. Sonny was confused, to say the least, but the training process continues.
