Hastings To Receive CARES Funding For Elections

The Hastings City Council has learned that the Office of the Secretary of State (OSS) received funding through the CARES Act to prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus for the 2020 Federal election cycle. According to information provided to the Council, Minnesota Laws 2020, Chapter 77, authorizes the use of these funds within Minnesota, including for distributing these funds to local governments for use consistent with state and federal requirements. The OSS has divided the CARES Act funding based on a formula using various election related factors. Dakota County will receive and allocate funds to each municipality and each municipality must enter into a written agreement on the distribution and allocation of funds. The City of Hastings will receive $14,337. A resolution to approve the agreement was placed on the Consent Agenda for the August 17th meeting of the Council.
