Liberty Restaurant Building Condemned

The building housing the Liberty Restaurant in Red Wing has been condemned after an SUV crashed into a corner of the building on Wednesday, September 2nd. According to published reports, the officer in pursuit of the vehicle saw a large dust cloud with debris as he approached the Liberty, and said the suspect was crawling out of the vehicle’s window, which had debris and bricks on the top. The driver was arrested for DWI and criminal damage to property, and identified as 28-year-old Donovan Plank of Red Wing. The Red Wing Building Inspector has condemned the building due to structural damages, and a structural engineer will analyze the building for repair, rehabilitation, or demolition. The building is described as a city landmark and historic structure.
