The City of Hastings has announced the hiring of two new officers to the Police Department, Officers Payton Walser and Matthew Harrity. Walser, a Fairmont, MN native, attended Winona State University and studied abroad in Spain during the summer of 2018. Payton graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and completed her skills portion of training at Rochester Community & Technical College in May of 2020. Harrity is a Minneapolis native and currently a Minneapolis Police Officer assigned to the 2nd Precinct. He completed his Associates Degree at Inver Hills Community College in 2013 and his Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement at Metro State University in 2015. Matt worked a short time as a Correctional Officer for the MN Department of Corrections in Stillwater, in late 2015 before joining the Minneapolis Police Department. Harrity chose Hastings because of the small town feel and to enhance his ability to build relationships in the community he serves. The two new officers are scheduled to start on October 19th.
