The Washington County Board of Commissioners has approved a Land and Water Legacy Program project to created a 41-acre conservation area park in Afton. According to the County newsletter, the County, the Belwin Conservancy, and the MN DNR reached an agreement on the concept, funding and a conservation easement for the land, bordering the Belwin Conservancy, and Minnesota Land Trust property. The County will contribute $507,000 to the project and hold a 31-acre conservation easement. Belwin will contribute $157,000, own the 31-acre parcel, and provide parking and trail access, and the State will contribute $290,000 to the project. A project completion date has not been established.
