Hastings Police Chief Bryan Schafer reports that the overall crime rate of Hastings is 15% less than this time last year, and for the period of March through July, the decrease is 30% from the same months in the previous year. Increases were seen in assaults, disorderly conduct, vandalism, and crisis/mental health calls. Chief Schafer presented these data at a recent virtual meeting of the Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce.
