Cotton Sentenced

Acting Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena announced that 32-year-old Inver Grove Heights resident Breyona Cotton was sentenced on Wednesday to 90 days in jail and 30 days of electronic home monitoring by Judge Timothy McManus in connection with a crash that took place on 80th Street near the intersection of Blaine Avenue in Inver Grove Heights on January 5, 2019, that caused the death of 55-year-old Haimanot Gebremedhin. Cotton pled guilty October 5th, of 2020, to one felony-level count of leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death. Restitution was also ordered in an amount to be determined. A separate count of failure to notify police was dismissed. On behalf of the Dakota County Attorney’s Office and law enforcement, Keena praised the investigation and prosecution of the case, and extended her sympathy to the family and friends of Gebremedhin.
