Local Farmers Receive Crop Awards

Two local corn farmers have been recognized by the National Corn Grower’s Association for the results they posted for their crops last year. Dave Beskau of Hastings placed First in the state in the I:Conventional Irrigated Class Class with a yield of just under 276 bushels per acre, and Gary Beskau, also of Hastings, placed Second in the state in the I:Conventional Irrigated Class Class with a yield of 271.6 bushels per acre. The hybrid used in both winning fields was Pioneer P1108Q. The Beskaus were two of 506 state winners nationwide. The 2020 contest participation included 7,844 entries from 48 states. Of the state winners, 27 growers, three from each of nine classes, were named national winners, representing 12 states.
