The southern 2 miles of Highway 316 were closed to traffic on Monday morning after a fatal crash just south of 200th Street. According to initial reports, County and State officials were on the scene, along with the Hennepin County Medical examiner. According to the state patrol, an SUV collided with a semi truck. The driver of the SUV died at the scene. Eyewitness reports say that MnDOT trucks were used to cordon off the accident scene. Local resident Tim Figge described what he saw as he was leaving his residence just after the accident.
Figge also commented that improvements to the roadway in recent years may contribute to an increase in accidents.
