Body Found in Jaycee Park During Fire Call

In the very early hours of July 10, Hastings Fire personnel were dispatched to a report of a fire at the Jaycee Park boat landing. HPD Officers arrived and observed a wooden enclosure engulfed and attempted to extinguish the fire along with HFD. As they brought the fire under control, a dead body was discovered near the enclosure.
The Hastings Police Department is investigating the incident with assistance from the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), State Fire Marshal, and Hennepin County Medical Examiner. According to information posted on social media, the identity of the body will be determined by the Medical Examiner at a later time. Lock and Dam Road and the walking trail were closed until mid-morning. This case remains under investigation. Stay tuned to KDWA for updates as they become available.
