Micromobility Company To Set Operations

Hastings residents and visitors will soon have the option to rent motorized scooters to get around town and on trails. On February 22nd the City Council approved a license agreement to allow Bird Rides to establish operations in Hastings. The Hastings City Council previously paved the way for electronic scooters by adopting an ordinance that establishes rules for micromobility facilities within the city’s right-of-way. The scooters would be equipped with GPS tracking systems and would cease to operate outside of designated areas. They also would not be allowed on downtown sidewalks, according to Community Development Director John Hinzman. Hinzman said he hopes scooters may be used by boaters docking across the river to shorten the distance by taking a scooter over the bridge into downtown. Hinzman believes they will be operational by summer.
