Approximately 150 Soldiers from the Minnesota National Guard’s 434th Chemical Company, based in Hastings and Red Wing, returned last week from deployment to Kuwait in support of Operation Spartan Shield. While deployed, the Soldiers provided Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) response in support of Operations Spartan Shield and Inherent Resolve in the United States Central Command area of operations. The unit is trained to respond to multiple hazards in the event of a CBRN or weapons of mass destruction attack or threat. In theater, the Soldiers of the 434th Chemical Company provided CBRN response on-site at the Arab Cup in Qatar and participated in joint training exercises in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan. They were also part of a joint training exercise with the United States Navy Chemical Assessment Response Team.
