On Tuesday, April 21 there was a Prescott Organizational City Council meeting.
KDWA was there as Mayor Michael Gerke took the Oath of Office.
(Actuality 1)
Councilmember Ben Bettis was nominated by councilmembers Hintz and Sorensen to be the president of the common council.
There was discussion about filling the vacancy on the city council as Mayor Gerke assumes his role. The common council can fill the vacancy by appointment or election. The vacant seat would be up for election in 2027. It was suggested that Bailey Ruona be the one to fill the vacancy, as she tied Gerke in the mayoral race, and Mayor Gerke said that Bailey is a valuable leader in the Prescott community.
Councilmembers Hintz and Otwell nominated Bailey Ruona, and a motion was made for Bailey Ruona to assume the vacant seat of the Prescott City Council.
KDWA will have more on this report in future broadcasts.
