Riverside Sweeps Onalaska Show

This cold day is a stark contrast to the hot streak reported from the Hastings Show Choir Riverside Company. The 64 members, 15 person band, crew , directors and a large contingency of parents traveled to Onalaska for their 2nd competition of the new season. Before the competition got underway, however, word was received that one of the prep choirs from Weaton Warrenville, Illinois lost their bus, several instruments, and their entire costume wardrobe when a tire blowout caused a fire that spread to the cargo bays under the bus, where the items are stowed. All students quickly got on their second bus and continued to the competition so that their varsity group could perform. Show coordinators were made aware of the situation and through a network of parents, siblings, directors and even other choirs, they scared up extra shoes, costumes, even musical instruments , so that both groups could go on as scheduled. The show group even managed to score tops of the Prep division and thanked everyone for their community spirit that made it possible for the show to go on. Riverside, competing in the Varsity division, repeated last week’s sweep of caption awards, Best Band, Best Vocals, Best Choreography and Grand Champion Choir. The choir will have a weekend off before hitting the road again for the Westside Competition in Omaha, Nebraska at the end of the month. The following weekend, the other choirs, Divaz and Upstage Revolution will begin their season at Eau Claire on February 6th.
