Community Partnerships Inspire Summer Memories through Hastings’ Rec+Art+Police Program

On Wednesday, July 22, the Rec+Art+Police summer program met at Roadside Park in Hastings for an afternoon of food, fun, and entertainment.

Kids created caterpillar-themed art, practiced their juggling skills, and enjoyed a lunch provided by Hastings Family Service.

Hastings Recreation Programming Specialist Paige Marschall-Bigler shared details about the event and offered a preview of upcoming activities.

“This is our free summer series for kids of all ages this summer, and we offer, in partnership with Hastings Family Service, a free lunch and snack, as well as a free art activity with the Hastings Prescott Area Arts Council, and our recreational activities in partnership with our City of Hastings Parks and Rec Department and our Police Department. Today we have a juggling show and a class, and then our next program, which is our last of the summer, is Wednesday, August 5, from 12pm to 1:30pm at Lyons Park, and we will have lunch, an art activity, and a reptile show.”

“And this is so much fun! To those who aren’t here right now and don’t know what I’m seeing, there are just families all around, under the pavilion. There are the police officers, and kids are just having lots of fun. Is it like this every time?”

“Yes, it’s a whole lot of fun. It’s evolved over the years. I believe this is our fifth year offering our Rec+Art+Police program series for free for the community, where we pop around at different parks throughout the summer, June, July, and August.”

The Rec+Art+Police summer program is made possible thanks to the generous support of Hastings Community Education, the Hastings Prescott Arts Council, the Hastings Police Department, the Hastings Lions Club, Hastings Family Service, Country Financial, and SC Toys. Their contributions make this fun summer experience possible for the children of our community.
