Dakota County to Reconstruct Hastings Bluff Segment of Mississippi River Greenway

Trail users in Hastings will soon see improvements along a popular section of the Mississippi River Greenway, but the project will require a temporary closure and detour.

Dakota County is preparing to begin reconstruction work on the Hastings Bluff segment of the Mississippi River Greenway.

The project covers the trail between County Road 42/Nininger Road and U.S. Lock and Dam Number 2 and is designed to improve safety and bring the trail up to county greenway standards.

According to the project outline, planned improvements include resurfacing the existing pavement, lowering portions of the trail to reduce steep angles, widening the trail from eight feet to ten feet, and expanding curves to improve visibility for trail users.

Crews will also clear trees to accommodate the new trail alignment.

County officials say the upgrades will create a safer and more accessible off-road trail for bicyclists, walkers, runners, and other users.

Construction is scheduled to begin with a trail closure on June 29th.

During the closure, trail users will be directed to a detour route. The detour will take users south on Nininger Road to Second Street, then onto Spring Street before reconnecting with the trail through Jaycee Park.

Dakota County officials are encouraging residents and visitors to plan ahead and follow posted detour signs while construction is underway.
