David Bauer Ends State Golf Run, Miesville Mudhens and Hastings Hawks Win Wednesday

David Bauer wrapped up the spring sports season for Hastings High School, competing in day two of the AAA State Golf Meet at Bunker Hills Golf Course, carding a 150 two-day total +4 over par. Bauer finished day one +2 over par, and started on the back nine on Wednesday making a birdie on three of the first four holes, but bogey’d three of the last five to end the first nine even par, then had two birdies and four bogeys on the next nine holes to end the day in 32nd place overall in class AAA. Brainerd ran away with a state championship by 12 strokes, shooting as a team -3 par. William Roiland from Elk River earned the individual championship with a two-day total of 139.

The Miesville Mudhens baseball team took down Faribault 10-4 as heard live on KDWA and online at KDWA.com via boxcast Wednesday evening.

Faribault jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning, but Ronnie Sweeny hit an RBI single in the bottom of the inning and a sacrifice fly by Evan Nelson tied the score 2-2 after the first. Miesville scored twice again on an error in the second to lead 4-2, then a Joey Werner RBI single in the fourth to lead 5-2 after four. Eddie Peine drove in two runs in the fifth to lead 7-2, then Miesville added another run on a fielder’s choice by Max Gamm to extend the lead to 8-2, and another run was walked in with the bases loaded before a marathon fifth inning ended.

Faribault added another run in the sixth to cut the deficit down to 9-3, but Miesville answered right back with a run in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch with the bases loaded. Faribault again plated a run late and threatened with multiple runners on in the ninth, but the Mudhens prevented any more runs from coming in to score and got the victory. Miesville will now have a game tomorrow with the Rochester Roadrunners after Hampton delayed their game, and improves their record to 6-2 on the season.

The Hastings Hawks also took down the Northfield Knights on the road Wednesday evening 17-3. Hastings will next play tomorrow on the road at Red Wing.
