Debbie Bauer Brings Smiles with her Poem–Lob the Lutefisk

We have a poem that takes place at Lake Rebecca.

In a human-interest story, we are highlighting Debbie Bauer. But you might have known her as Debbie Duray. Debbie graduated from Shakopee High School but worked at her dad’s grocery store here in Hastings, Don’s Super Value, which was located on 4th and Vermillion. While working at her dad’s store, Debbie met a Hastings boy. One thing led to another, and Bauer and her husband have been married for 52 years.

Bauer always had an interest in writing. After graduating high school, Debbie attended Brown Institute and studied broadcasting, and it was there that she also learned copywriting. The only gal in her class at Brown Institute, when WRDN radio station out of Durand, Wisconsin, called for a female broadcaster, Bauer was immediately hired.

A few years ago, Debbie Bauer participated as a voice actor in Black Dirt Theater’s production of The Christmas Carol that aired on KDWA.

Bauer, still the avid writer, shared a poem with KDWA that she had written years ago, called Lob the Lutefisk. The poem takes place at Lake Rebecca here in Hastings.

KDWA asked Bauer about the inspiration for the poem.

In good fun, Debbie Bauer offered a reading of her poem, Lob the Lutefisk. Enjoy!
