Those in the community who have suffered the loss of a child or family member can take advantage of
multiple support groups in the area. Host of Grief Chat on KDWA Donna Mathiowetz said there are many
“So, we have our Gone Too Soon group that meets on the first and third Wednesday night of the month, over at the community ed building on 4th and River, we use the senior center area. Then we have our Grief Care Group in Hastings that meets on the fourth Thursday night at 6:30pm at the same place, then I have a Grief Care Group in Cottage Grove, we meet on the third Monday at 6:30pm at Kok Funeral Home in Cottage Grove.”
Mathiowetz also said there is a bigger educational event specifically geared towards parents and grandparents who have lost a child.
“Just to have people mark their calendars, I am in the midst of planning a seminar at Kok Funeral Home that will be on April 25th. It is specifically for parents or grandparents who have lost a child. We have a wonderful speaker, a wonderful speaker/author, who will be the keynote speaker. It will be from 9am-3:30pm on that Saturday, April 25th. So, I’ll be talking more about that, but I would love for parents and grandparents to kind of save the date now, with more information coming.”
